چکیده

iii infectious mononucleosis has been the subject of controversy. It is now generally accepted that they belong to the lymphocytic series 3 although an occasional worker4 holds out for their monocytic origin. Recently, Paegle,#{176} usmg the electron microscope, found that most of the cells in the blood of l) ttients with infectious mononucleosis contained organelles similar to those of the cells of the lymphocytic series and did not have an ergastoplasm. He vas unable to distinguish between the three cell types described by Downey.2 It is the purpose of this study to characterize the infectious mononucleosis ( IM ) cells cytochemically in an attempt to throw further light on their origin, nature and function. The study was restricted largely to the atypical lymphocytes as they appeared in the peripheral circulation, although imprint preparations of hiopsied lymph nodes were investigated in two cases.

Leukemia-like pattern of the DNA, RNA, and protein content of individual mononuclear cells in the peripheral blood of patients with infectious mononucleosis.

SUMMARY The deoxyribonudeotide, total nucleotide, and protein con tent of single mononuclear cells derived directly from the peripheral blood buffy coats of patients with infectious mono nucleosis were determined cytochemically by means of ultra microspectrophotometry and ultramicrointerferometry. A small fraction of cells in the populations derived from each patient was found to be in the 5-or...

Ultrastructural, cytochemical, and membrane surface marker characteristics of the atypical lymphocytes in infectious mononucleosis.

Atypical lymphocytes from nine young adults with acute infectious mononucleosis (IM) were studied for morphologic, ultrastructural, cytochemical, and membrane surface marker characteristics. There was an absolute increase in T lymphocytes in the patients. Atypical lymphocytes accounted for 83%-96% of the lymphocyte population. These lymphocytes contained cytoplasmic inclusions which ranged in s...

Granulocyte changes in infectious mononucleosis.

Various changes in the granulocytes have been investigated in a large series of patients with infectious mononucleosis. A high proportion of cases regularly show a neutropenia with a shift to the left during the first three to four weeks of the disease; these changes, though transient, may be profound. The band cells present during the acute phase of the disease also show certain alterations in...

The sea-blue histiocyte syndrome with hepatic porphyria and infectious mononucleosis.

The syndrome of sea-blue histiocyte, hepatic porphyria, and infectious mononucleosis occurring simultaneously in a young girl is described. The cytochemical staining character of the bone marrow histiocytes strongly suggested that the storage material was glycolipid. The possible relationship between the multiple disorders in the same patient is discussed.

Infectious mononucleosis: sequential immunologic, cytochemical, and cytokinetic studies on single lymphoid cells in peripheral blood.

Sequential immunologic, cytochemical, and cytokinetic studies were done on single lymphoid cells in the peripheral blood of 6 children with infectious mononucleosis (IM) and 1 child with toxoplasmosis 1-2 wk after onset of symptomatology. The absolute number of AET-SRBC rosetting (E+) cells was increased in all patients; the absolute number of cells with surface IgM (slgM+) was increased in 3 o...
